Congratulations

Dr. Roseanna Means, of Women of Means, is being awarded a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation 2010 Community Health Leaders Award.

This is a prestigious award and given to only ten leaders across the US working in community health care.  Dr. Means brings free, quality health care to women in shelters

I was at a meeting where Dr. Means was the speaker, I was impressed by her work and especially her caring for these women in need.  So when I wanted to give back I decided to donate a portion of my Travel by Tatten Women Only Trips to Dr. Means organization.  Women helping other women, imagine the possibilities…

I’m an Adventure Travel Specialist

I have completed a two year Adventure Travel program, that included a ranch stay, two day river rafting in British Columbia, cross country skiing and heli-snow shoeing in the Canadian Rockies – a helicopter took me to the top of the mountain, to be above the tree line for a most incredible view!

I’m listed as an Adventure Travel Specialist with the Adventure Council and listed in the September issue of National Geographic Adventure Magazine. In a few weeks I will be traveling to Costa Rica, a very popular adventure and active vacation destination, so I can better advise my clients on the possibilities in planning their perfect trip!

I98 million people have taken an adventure trip in the past five years.

Travel by Tatten supports Sylvia’s Haven

Women helping women, it has a good feel and Imagine the Possibilities..

.
I have been very fortunate to have family and friends – my angels – in my life during difficult times, their support has made all the difference in my life. Having said this, my difficult times can not be compared, at all, to what the women at Sylvia’s Haven have had to endure.

Sylvia’s Haven, provides transitional housing for homeless women and their children, where women are offered food, shelter and the opportunity to recover from the trauma of homelessness, enabling them to go on to build confidence and learn skills to become self-sufficient and independent. Sylvia first started her mission to help women, by taking three pregnant homeless women into her own home, she is a remarkable women.

I first heard of Sylvia, from an article in the Boston Globe, many years ago. I started to send donations, when I could, and have followed the progress of Sylvia’s Haven through the years. Last week, I called Sylvia and asked to meet her and visit Sylvia’s Haven; I was impressed by her caring for “her girls” and her long fight to keep things going.

I have decided that I want to help, a small way of giving back for my good fortune in life. Since I have developed my own Women Only Travel trips, it seemed like a perfect way to help – so I will make a donation to Sylvia’s Haven for each Women Only Trip that I do. Women helping women, it has a good feel and Imagine the Possibilities…

If you would like to learn more about Sylvia’s Haven, and how you can help with donations of food, furniture or money, please see www.sylviashaven.org.
